Pesa

Pesa (Percutaneous Epidididymal Sperm Aspiration)

It is the process of obtaining sperm by aspiration method by reaching the enlarged obstructed duct or testicular tissue with a thin needle without incision. It is preferred in cases where there is natural sperm production in the body but these sperms cannot be transferred to semen (azoospermia) or are transferred in small numbers (cryptozoospermia). It is performed under local anesthesia and is a less preferred method due to the risks of not obtaining sperm or obtaining a small number of sperm and bleeding because the needle is applied without seeing through the skin.

Who is it applied to?

Men who have had a vasectomy (vasectomy: a surgical contraceptive method in which the sperm ducts are cut, tied or sealed)

Obstructive azoospermia due to infection

Obstruction due to trauma or previous surgery

Those with undescended testicles

Previous infection (mumps)

Those without congenital vas deferens (sperm ducts). It is especially seen in cystic fibrosis carriers.
