MESA (Micro Epidididymal Sperm Aspiration)

It is the process of making a small incision in the skin of the scrotum and aspirating a liquid without red blood cells from the epididymis (testicle) tissue under a microscope. It is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia anesthesia and more mature sperm are obtained compared to other aspiration techniques.

Who is it applied to?

Men who have had a vasectomy (vasectomy: a surgical contraceptive method in which the sperm ducts are cut, tied or sealed)

Obstructive azoospermia due to infection

Obstruction due to trauma or previous surgery

Those with undescended testicles

Previous infection (mumps)

Those without congenital vas deferens (sperm ducts). It is especially seen in cystic fibrosis carriers.
