What is the Microchip Method?
What is the Microchip Method?
Microchip is designed to extract, isolate or select sperm cells with specific characteristics in a fluid environment to increase the chance of success in in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. It is a method of making sperms filtered through micro channels with a special device physiologically and morphologically ready for fertilization. With this technology, sperm cells pass through the microchannels as if they are trying to reach the egg cell through the tubes, and the sperm obtained at the end of this race are the sperm with the highest chance of fertilizing the egg. It is called the microchip method because of the chips used for this method. The advantage of this method is that while some sperm are damaged by microscopy, the microchip method minimizes this damage. Therefore, it is a more natural method because it mimics normal physiology.
The microchip method contributes positively to the IVF process because it helps to minimize DNA-related problems, especially those who have problems with sperm in IVF treatments. Thanks to this microfluidic chip technology, sperm-induced IVF failures have decreased.
By selecting the best quality and correct sperms, the rate of embryos reaching day 5 has increased. It is safely preferred in all IVF treatments.
